Permit reviewers reject rooftop solar submissions for a small, repeatable set of reasons far more often than for genuinely novel design issues. Getting these right on the first submission is usually the fastest path through review.
Structural loading documentation, matched to the actual mounting system
Generic structural calculations that don't match the specific mounting hardware and actual roof structure are one of the most common rejection reasons we see. The structural letter needs to reference the real racking system and the real roof, not a template.
Single-line diagrams that match the equipment list exactly
Inverter model numbers, string configurations, and disconnect locations need to be identical across the single-line diagram, the equipment specification sheets, and the site plan. A mismatch between any two of these documents is a near-automatic review cycle.
Fire setback compliance shown, not just claimed
Local fire code setback requirements for rooftop access pathways need to be dimensioned on the site plan itself, not just referenced in a note. Reviewers check this visually against the drawing.
Interconnection application details that match the utility's actual format
Utilities vary in what they require for interconnection applications, and using a generic template instead of the specific utility's current form is a common, avoidable delay. Confirming the current version of the utility's form before final submission saves a review cycle more often than any other single check.
